Rabbit’s Foot (Geum Urbanum) – a Plant that Cures 99 Diseases
For the rabbit’s foot or purpose (Geum urbanum), our people believe that it is a very powerful medicine that cures as many as 99 diseases. This forest beauty is one of the safe, fragrant plants for treating inflamed gums, nervous intestines and for stopping diarrhea.
The rabbit’s foot is a plant that grows on the edges of forests and shady glades. It has tiny yellow flowers, and the plant is easily recognizable because its root smells strongly of cloves.
This fragrance comes from the hydrocarbon eugenol from the essential oil (it is present in the plant about 0.2%). In addition to essential oil, rabbit’s foot also contains a very high percentage of tannins and flavonoid heterosis, and the leaf also contains vitamin C.

The combination of tannin and antiseptic essential oil makes rabbit’s foot one of the best herbal remedies for strengthening weak gums and stopping bleeding. For this purpose, it can be used alone or in combination with sage.
Rabbit foot is also one of the best herbal remedies for diarrhea. In combination with St. John’s wort, angelica and buckthorn, it is given to people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. Powdered ground root is taken before meals to stimulate the appetite (a quarter of a teaspoon with a little cold water).
In folk medicine, a tincture is made from the root of the rabbit’s foot to improve mood and against melancholy. Mixed with Church Steeples (Agrimonia Eupatoria), it is also recommended for those who suffer from chronic fatigue.
Herbal remedies containing rabbit’s foot are very effective in treating eczema and allergic skin reactions (usually mixtures with marigold and wild day and night). The rabbit’s foot is part of the balm for hemorrhoids because it locally narrows blood vessels and stops bleeding.

Tincture to strengthen gums and stop bleeding
Pour 100 g of rabbit root and 50 grams of sage leaves with 500 ml of 70% alcohol, close and leave to stand in a dark place for two weeks with more frequent shaking. After two weeks, strain the liquid and pour it into clean bottles. Dilute three teaspoons of tincture with a cup of chamomile or sage tea and use to rinse your mouth three times a day.
Natural apple cider vinegar can be used instead of alcohol. The tincture made in this way contains more tannins, and in the one with alcohol, essential oils come to the fore.
